Camp Amalinda: Matopos National Park Zimbabwe Safari

Camp’s Quick Facts:

The Camp Amalinda is nestled in the granite domes and castle kopjes of the Matobo Hills, amongst some of the most majestic rock scenery in the world. The Camp is tucked away into an old ancient Bushman’s shelter left with one of the oldest rock-paintings in Southern Africa with a panoramic view of the Matobo Hills, which makes the Camp charms with an incredible impression on every visitor visiting Matopos National Park.

The Camp Amalinda consists of nine individually thatched rooms including two honeymoon suites, which are set into the huge boulders. Each is steeped in African historical artefacts of a bygone era. In the central area a cosy library contains some of the old “Africa Classics, whilst a secluded chess room located amongst the tree tops guarantees peace and tranquillity. Chef’s corner serves the delicious meals served on a massive teak table in the open-air dining room. Camp Amalinda has a natural cave wine cellar which appeals to the wine connoisseur. Sundowners can be enjoyed around the fire in the enclosed “Boma” area. At the base of the camp is a large swimming pool with comfortable loungers and a bar, all overlooking a waterhole. Guests can enjoy a private massage at the camp’s Heritage Spa.

Camp’s Quick Safari High-lights:

• Activities include game viewing by vehicle or on foot with experienced Guides.
• Track down the “horn of sorrow” as they have become known – the endangered black rhino.
• Drive through the granite hills in the footsteps of Cecil John Rhodes and visit his world famous tomb known as “World’s View”.
• Take a tour to an African homestead and get down to earth with the local Matabele people, visiting their “pole and dagga” huts, the rural clinic and the local primary school.

Situated in the unspoiled wilderness granite domes and castle kopjes of the Matobo Hills National Park, the lodge can be accessed by road from Bulawayo Zimbabwe's second largest city.
