Jacana Camp: Jao Concession Okavango Botswana Safari

Camp’s Quick Facts:

Between Moremi Game Reserve's boundary and the adjacent private Jao Concession, lies the Jacana Camp beautifully located on the island surrounded by the classical seasonal undated Okavango floodplains and the papyrus swamp ecosystems. The Camp is built on five Meru-styled tents on wooden decks to accentuation spectacular views of the Jao floodplains.

Camp’s bedroom, bathrooms and Surrounding:

Each tent comprises of beautifully decorated en-suite bathrooms with unenclosed roofless allowing guests space to shower under African starlight - or simply to feel dappled sunlight and shade. The elevated platform main dining area between two magnificent sycamore fig trees surrounded by dense wild date palms offer a fresh breeze taking during the dry months of winters. The cosy downstairs bar and spacious lounge area offer the best relaxation after the morning or evening game drives with a cold beer in the African bush while sited around an open boma-fire under the African stars. The camp has a small plunge pool to cool off and relax during the midday-sun after morning safari activities.

• Safari activities offered are walking safaris and mokoro trips all year round.
• Game drives when floodwaters are receded - between the best game-viewing months of May and September.
• The camp is located in most densely populated wetland habitat where rare Sitatunga antelope species endemic to Botswana and other species such as red lechwe and tsetsebe share same habitats.
• The concentrations of wildlife depend on water flow of the year, volume which changes from season to season intervals.
• The big animals’ species such herd of elephants, buffalo, and predators are regularly found in the area.
• The abundance prolific birdlife offer an enthusiastic birder to spot species such as Pel's Fishing-Owl, African and Lesser Jacanas, and Okavango special hosting bird species like African pygmy, Greater, Slaty and cattle egrets, Western banded snake eagle Egyptian Geese and Marshall eagle.

Camp Accessibility:

Located in Okavango Delta, Jacana Camp can only be accessed by a charter flight from Maun town, the tourism capital of Botswana.
