Jacks Camp: Magkadigkadi Pan Botswana

Camp’s Quick Facts:

During the 1960’s, Jack Bousfield the legendary traveller stumbled to trap the expedition of Makagdigadi pans upon at a site he captured with his imagination to establish a camp under an African acacia tree with unshakeable expectation that others would felt the same and lived here until his untimely tragic death in a light aircraft accident occurred in 1992. Ralph Bousfield, son of Jack Bousfield and his partner Catherine later established uncharted Africa Safari Company and followed his father’s footsteps and vision of homestead under the acacia tree and started with Jack’s camp now situated in the depth of Kalahari Desert on the edge of the Makgidkgadi Pans. The beginning of year 2003, Jack’s Camp was refurbished in a stylish feel of the East African safari traditional of 1940’s to give the guests a feel of a colonial styles camping under the African skies. Today, Jack’s Camp is among the fewer camps in Makgadikgadi Pans offers the best unique historical home-stay feel with a hub-romantic canvas pavilion which could have come from a medieval jousting tournament of the time and not the a deciduous green. The main Chambers where guests meet for the lavish elegant meals at a long communal dining table is supported by three poles to give the guests an African authentic dining.

The Camp’s bedrooms, bathrooms and Surrounding:

The stylish built –on Canvas tents has ten roomy fitted in en-suite bathrooms, African indoor and outdoor showers to give the guests a total feel of the Kalahari breeze on their skin. The fashioned classical styled camp’s room’s tents are set each into a palm grove creating an oasis of civilization in what can be the harshest of stark environments in Kalahari. The interior Persian rugs underfoot and cool cotton sheets form a striking contrast with the rugged wilderness viewed from the comfort of one’s own veranda.
