Mchenja Bush Camp: South Luangwa National Park, Zambia Safari

Camp’s Quick Facts:

Mchenja, meaning "ebony", occupies a stunning setting beneath a magnificent grove of these trees on the banks of the Luangwa River in South Luangwa National Park. It is located in an area teaming with wildlife. The camp takes luxury in the bush to a level not previously seen in Zambia. Mchenja consists of five stylishly designed and spacious tents on raised platforms under thatch, with a deck in front overlooking the Luangwa River. It is possible to combine Mchenja with the other three Norman Carr bush camps –Luwi,Nsolo, and Kakuli-walking out of one camp early in the morning and arriving at the next for brunch to find your bags already waiting for you. Mchenje is also one of the few bush camps in Zambia open during the Green Season in February and March.

The Camp’s Bedroom, Bathroom and Surroundings:

Each tent has an inside bath with an outside shower room. The beautiful central area is built around one of the old fallen Mchenja trees. This thatched construction contains the bar and lounge, although most meals are enjoyed under the canopy of the magnificent trees outside. There is also a small plunge pool for guests to cool off during the heat of the day.

Camp’s Quick Safari High-lights:

• Staying at Mchenja Camp can choose whether guests want to view wildlife on foot or from an open game viewing vehicle.
• Walk Safari are not strenuous and are conducted at a pace determined by the guests – normally lasting three to four hours.
• The walk Safaris are led by a fully qualified guide and armed game scout.
• The game-viewing in this area is superb and night drives are usually very worthwhile.
• In addition to the ebony grove at camp there are two other stunning groves close by meaning that this most magnificent of trees plays a big part in your safari experience whilst at Mchenja.

Located on the bank of Luangwa River in South Luangwa National Park, Mchenga Bush can be accessed by charter flight from Lusaka/Livingstone international airport as an easy access due to its remote location.
