Sandibe Safari Lodge: Okavango Delta, Botswana Safari

Camp’s Quick Facts:

Sandibe Safari Lodge is build on a permanent channel of the spectacular Okavango Delta, adjacent to Moremi Wildlife Reserve on the private 270 square kilometre Sandibe Concession. The eight beautifully finished intimate thatched lodge are nestled between permanent waters and grass-swept plains were built up with a commitment to enhance the treading enjoyment for any safari on the earth.

Camp’s Bedrooms, bathrooms and Surrounding:

The eight thatched chalets were constructed in natural clearings and any saplings removed were transplanted into the surrounding forest. The meandering paths of the camp are those made by the elephants and wildlife. Each thatched twin-bedded en-suite chalet has a separate toilet and open-air shower which allow guests to feel part of the African bush environment. The chalets wall screens were designed to accommodate airy-breeze from Okavango River. The chalets are decorated in a warm welcome fusion of ochres and tactile textures, from leather to silk and rough hewn wood. The idyllic private decks provide a stunning vantage point-views for birdwatcher’s identification. Tall overarching trees inspire the soaring volumes of the central sitting and dining area with quiet, hammocked decks affording views across the Delta and savannah grasslands. At evenings, numerous candles illuminate the boma with its alfresco banquet of pan-African cuisine styles. Fine chilled white and red wines await the return of the thirsty guests from evening game drives. The camp provides has a reed-enclosed swimming pool useful for cooling off during the heat of the day.

• Experienced Guides and the Batswana trackers lead you on day and night game-drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles.
• Alternatively, explore the Delta on foot with a professional armed Guide or discover the channels of the delta in a mokoro ride and interpret the Sandibe’s eco-systems on a silent electric wooden eco-crafted boat.
• The boat safari game-viewing on Okavango Delta are most enjoyed throughout the year and best for the months of June to September.
• Go fishing with a myriad of fish species on catch-release basis including the, barbel, tilapia/bream, nembwe, fine-toothed squeaker and African pike, fishing from Sandibe's powerboat which can be arranged any time of the day.
• Go bird watching in Sandibe concession with your twitcher Guides and record your own 350 species and identify the rich wetland species such as African jacana, herons, malachite kingfisher and open-billed stork, brightly-coloured bee-eaters or spotting Pel’s fishing owl – one of the only three fishing owls in Africa.
• Intermingled while on game drives with expert guides and sight the larger herbivores in the area such as herds elephant, buffalo, Lion prides cheetah, leopard and African painted wild dog.
• Enjoy viewing the general game of antelopes such as herds of red lechwe which favour the edges of floodplains, often feeding in the company of tsessebe, Roan and sable antelope favour taller grass in open woodlands and elusive sitatunga found in dense papyrus beds.
• Go river safari by Mokoro ride or boat and get to hear the bellowing sound of the hippopotamus residing in deep water channels and lagoons Okavango water channels.
• Dine on evening meals and quietly listen to the sounds of the noisy epauletted fruit Bats sipping nectar from baobab and sausage tree flower blooms around the camp.

Camp Accessibility:

Located in Okavango Delta swamps, the camp can only be accessed by a charter flight from Maun/Kasane town, the tourism capitals of Botswana, and then got transferred to the Camp by the game-viewing or mokoro ride/ a boat depending the high water-levels in winter months of June/July.
